I am really excited about the festival, I wanted to go last year, but couldn't make it. I want to know from people who have been there if it is a cool environment for older kids 12-16. I know everyone's definition of this will be different, but let's assume our family is "middle of the road" kind of people. If it is a total drunk fest I'm not onto my kids being there. What do you guys think?

Tricky question, The Hangout itself is very family friendly. And this is probably one of the more family friendly festivals around. With that said, I would not bring my 12-16 year olds to this festival. That is a very curious age and they will have a lot of questions. I would be prepared to have a drug talk with them before. And I would keep them close to the main stage and the hangout stage. Those are the more family friendly areas. I wouldn't let them wander without you. If you do all that then I think you will be good. But I wouldn't be surprised if they see things that you don't want them to see.

I hope some others have input. I think its very responsible for you to be asking these questions rather than just showing up expecting Disney World.

I think as long as you explain to them that they will see people heavily under the influence and that it isn't the norm, that enjoying a music festival should be about enjoying the music.  Explain to them that it can be an amazing experience, life changing.

Then make the call, do you want them to be exposed to the type of things that can completely change their ways of thinking about life?

I'm totally just kidding, I think that the sooner people are exposed to great music the better….seriously, bring your kids.  As long as you aren't driving them around while you are completely wasted, then I think it's awesome.
