How tough is it to bring beverages in? Everyone is staying outside the fest and I'm not going to want to spend $8 every time I want a drink. How is this for the people that went last year?

You have to dump out all your liquids before they let you in. Even water. You can bring in empty nalgene bottles or camelbacks. Also, it was difficult to leave to get something to eat/drink because you had to wait over an hour in line to get back in.

I hope it's better this year, but I wouldn't count on it. There was only 1 water refill area, plus the bathrooms…but as a female, I had to wait almost an hour to get in there, too.

Plan accordingly!

While I agree with everything Methodical has said about liquids I have to disagree about having to wait "an hour" to get back in. I left 2-3 times a day and as long as you dont leave within 30-45 minutes of the gates initially opening its really not a long wait to get back in, if at all. Many times after having left and coming back in I would walk without interruption all the way up to the security tables and right back into the festival. If you have a car I'd recommend keeping a cooler stocked in the trunk or back seat. The beer prices inside were a little crazy last year.
