how far away from the festival area do you have to be in order to swim in the ocean. i heard they won't let you swim right there.

You can swim right outside the gate, it is just a matter of getting through the people flow in and out of the show, lines for re-entry.

I don't think they can really cancel swimming, it is the gulf. From what I understand you have to exit from the only exit/entrance, on the street side of the festival. Then walk around the festival to the beach and hop in the water.
And you might want to change your profile settings so your address doesn't show up right under your user name.
