Obviously John Frusciante is a huge loss. How do they compare with

Josh Klinghoffer?

I saw them twice last year and Josh fits in perfectly.  He is a great guitarist and he was fantastic with them.  The jams they had were incredible.  You can see the bond on stage and it is fucking beautiful  Although I miss John being in the band, especially as he is one of my all time favourite musicians and guitarists you gotta hand it to Josh, he knows how to rock the fuck out of his guitar.  I think they are extremely lucky to have got him in the band.

Speaking of John, he's been quiet, surely an album is on teh horizon?

i mean, the red hot chili peppers have toured with out John several times. if i'm correct, i believe he was only with them for four albums (maybe five idk). and i'm sure their live shows were fantastic then (that was before my time). the show will be fantastic. john f. basically taught josh how to play guitar i read in a magazine.

Seen the Chili Peppers over 20 times in the past 15 years, a huge fan. They are not the same band without John Frusciante. Josh K has a long ways to go. I saw them in Charlotte less than a week ago and he screwed up several times. His guitar playing lacks so much. Kinda compare it to Payton Manning leaving the Colts…that's how the Peppers are now.

The Empyrean was put back in 2009. I know he has done some work since then, but I haven't heard anythng about solo work.

@ rjrumfh

I agree totally with the band not being the same without John, I don't think they will ever be, but I am well delighted with Josh, I thought he was great when I saw them.

they need john. saw them last night, josh botched every solo (except higher ground) because he focuses too much on the distortion and not enough on the actual notes. it sounds like he plays with gloves on most of the time. kinda sounded like one huge power cord for the solo of 'otherside', so bad that i grimmiced and put my head in my hands. and its great that he flails around the stage, but he should probably learn how to play while doing that first.

i've been looking at their setlists for their past five shows. it's a really good mix. only like four or five songs off the new cd at each show which is badass. the new cd is good, but i wanna hear the songs i know and love.

first of all regardless of whos playing guitar……FLEA! everyone forgot the best practicing bassist in the world is in this band too!!  but baack to the question, obviously theyre not the same as when frusciante was in the band..he is a guitar god..but as far as replacements go klinghoffer is a great fit. anyone else trying to be raw like john would just not live up to his awesomeness.
