I believe there was an interview with one of the organizers where he stated there would be no repeat acts from last year.

I think all of the above suggestions are well thought out. After consideration, I will make the lineup exactly like last year, only I will add 90's rockers 311 and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Also, I will add Top 40 mainstays Hot Chelle Rae. Can't wait to see you guys in the sand!

Foo Fighters absolutely KILLED it last year…..and what other band would step up and play some extra (i.e. FREE) music when Cee-Lo was late (and personally, I wish he had never shown up at all). The Foos would ALWAYS be a welcome addition to the lineup, and you KNOW that they enjoy it!
Others to consider:
Jane's Addiction (who cares if Perry has his own festival!)
Alice in Chains (they are back, and almost as good as with Layne)
Ray Lamontagne (he was awesome 2 years ago at the Fest!)
Robert Plant (why not? who knows?)
Pearl Jam (or maybe Eddie by himself?)
Black Keys (they'd show up every year if you ask 'em)
Tenacious D (adds in some humor)
Rodrigo y Gabriela (unreal show)

The Chili Peppers are highly probable. Their tour dates following a hangout performance take them right up the middle of the country for a Hangout->St. Louis->Michigan road trip. They're playing Bonnaroo according to very credible sources but bands play both fests all the time and RHCP would make for an awesome beach show.
Eddie Vedder is a good bet too. He'll be in the south for a tour before he heads to Europe and all the hangout dates are open. May 16th he'll be in Orlando which is more than enough time to drive it on over to the Gulf Shores. It'd be awesome if him and pearl jam or Cornell got together for a show.
The Beach Boys make total sense unless there's a radius clause preventing them from performing a certain amount of distance from Jazz fest. The Hangout organizers know what an opportunity this would be I'm sure have done everything they can to make sure the Beach Boys happen.
Same thing with Tom Petty and The Boss as the Beach Boys. Kinda depends on what their contracts with Jazz Fest say.
Radiohead has pretty much been confirmed for bonnaroo. Dunno if they'd make the best band to see on the beach and the Hangout organizers probably take that into account so this is looking unlikely.
Prince has been rumoured to be touring in 2012 but no dates have been set.
A lot of bands that have been thrown around simply haven't announced any summer tour dates. DMB, Phish, String Cheese, Paul McCartney (I'd flip out) all have been rumoured to be touring but haven't given any info yet. Phish has been rumoured to be headlining bonnaroo again which makes an appearance at the hangout unlikely.
As for electronic acts
- Pretty Lights is playing Summer Camp a week after the Hangout, could shoot up I-65/I-24/I-57 to play both fests
- Skrillex is playing Bamboozle Fest in Jersey, the same weekend as Hangout, he's out
- Big G is playing the Bella Music fest in MN the weekend after the hangout, could play early in the weekend and have enough time to drive up to Bella, or fly of course
- Daft Punk has announced no dates but rumours have been flying around that they're touring
- Deadmau5 is playing in Ireland in early June, could play hangout and fly across the pond but looks unlikely
- Avicii is playing Coachella but hasn't announced any other dates that I could find, could play a month later in hangout, he'll be in the States
- Justice will be in Europe Hangout weekend, they're out
- No dates set for Glitch Mob
- Bassnectar will be in WA the weekend before the hangout, could fly in and play
- No dates set for Girl Talk
- Miike Snow is in Canada a month before the Hangout but he's playing Coachella and could def have enough time to make it down to Bama to get back on the fest circuit.
There has been a lot of talk about an interview where an organizer did say there won't be any repeat acts or very few repeat acts so any bands that are being thrown around that were at the Hangout Last year (black keys, warren haynes), there's a very small chance they'll be there again. I read people from Umphrey's said they'd be back if asked but it doesn't look like they were so check out 2011's lineup and I'd say its safe to cross most of them off the list, save some of the electronic shows. I just don't see enough big names out there to not have any repeats of last year. Can't really beat Big G/Bassnectar/PL/Girl Talk.
According to facebook, Shaul's going to be at some organizing expo in Cali on Feb 1st, coincidentally the same date the lineup was announced last year. Expect the same because they can't hold out on us much longer, they're already late compared to other fests around the same time frame.

Lineup last year was sick, so hopefully something very close to that. But definitely my morning jacket, foo fighters, black keys, flaming lips, PANIC (I wish), zach deputy, pretty lights, and Bassnectar. I'd also love to see furthur, OAR, rusted root, Keller Williams, girl talk, sts9, eoto, and string cheese. Ahhh can't wait!

I am hoping for a lineup similar to last year's (genre mix wise) with the Chili Peppers and some hip-hop added in. Maybe Curren$y, Big KRIT, Atmosphere, or Kendrick Lamar for current artists or Snoop and Dre, Outkast, or A Tribe Called Quest for the old school.

Someone on another board rumored Guns 'n' Roses as a possible headliner. Maybe 20 years ago, but not the "Hired Guns 'N' Roses" Axel is touring with. Besides, they'd have to play on schedule! ;-) I still want a heavy Jam Band presence, which is what helped last year sell out, IMHO.
The 2011 headliners were good, but the undercard is what sold me. I definitely got my money's worth and only hope this year's lineup is as good as 2011. I'd be happy to hit Wanee with two nights of Further and Allman Bros. Not much interests me at Wakarusa, but I'm an older fan. The Forecastle Festival in Louisville might be promising with MMJ having some creative involvement.
