JT- totally agree! I don't want to be stuck at the festival because my bike is blocked or buried under a ton of other bikes! I plan on not eating there since the prices will be outrageous. Let's get some brainstorming goin here to avoid a massive clusterfuck festival weekend transportation wise lol!

I recommend gulfshoresrentals.com . They have the easiest to use websit ebecause it lets you map out the options to see where they are in relation to the festival. However, lots of stuff is booked up.

minnsminze - I agree about the shuttle and skipping it. As mentioned, girlfriend and I have considered the bike option, but I've heard horror stories about bike parking as well. I've read multiple posts where it appears they had bike racks that were turned into mounds of bikes just locked to one another and any sign posts available in the vicinity were also taken and multiple bikes just chained altogether which would make inconvenient to make a trek back to hotel to grab a drink and bite to eat instead of being gouged at the festival. I've been going through various ideas in my head trying to figure out ways and options not having been there to try and come up with a way to have a cooler or something within walking distance to have refreshments nearby. It's just having a bike being jacked by others locks and buried would really piss me off. Luckily our hotel isn't absurdly far.

Perhaps I'll get lucky and befriend some nearby revelers on the boards or something before hand or on Thursday as we are getting in a day early where I could bring a cooler by their pad or someone with a car parked outside all weekend. I'd even buy them a case or a bottle just for the services. I love festivals, but think prices charged for food and beverages just get out of hand especially over 3 days.

There are lots of places to lock bikes up. Also, route 59, which is the main street going north/south, does have a bike lane on MOST of it, but beware, there is no bike lane and just barely even a shoulder going over the bridge area. That can be dangerous, especially with so many out of town people driving and most likely people who have been drinking and whatnot.

Just be careful.

Hey JT. No, I did not attend the festival last year, I was going to but it didn't end up working out. As of last years shuttles, I have heard they were basically a giant mess and not nearly enough shuttles for the volume of people trying to go to and leave the festival. I have heard they are making great improvements for this year's shuttle service though. However, it costs $40 for a weekend shuttle pass, not worth it in my opinion. My boyfriend and I are just bringing some cheap bikes and locks on the drive down with us to ride there and back. I have heard bikes are common, and I am assuming there will be sidewalks..at least i hope!

Staying at Travelodge as well and booked early Tuesday by grabbing a room for 4 nights, but they're now sold out as a friend attempted to try and get a room.

Minnsminze - Did you go last year? Are you doing shuttles as the hotel seems to sit smack dab in the middle of the two shuttle stops? I've seen some unfavorable comments about shuttles last, but they said they've revamped the service this year to make it easier for folks. I was considering brigning bikes with me and hoping it's safe to bike that road.

There is a hotel only 1/2 mile from the venue...easy walking distance and right across from the beach called Beachside Resort. It isn't really much of a resort...they do have a pool and decent enough rooms...but if u expect "resort" amenities you will be disappointed. It also has a mexican bar/grill there. They are fairly cheap and if I didn't live in GS, that's where I would stay!

I am booked at the travelodge gulf shores, we paid $100 a night. It is a special going on now if you book 3 nights or more the cost gets bumped down to about $100 per night. It is 1.5 miles from the festival. Book now though, when I called the other day, the lady on the phone said that they were almost booked for festival weekend!
